ColourManagement.net - Neil Barstow

We bring Colour Management to you:

We can help with a complete, partial or step by step introduction of Colour Management. It is fine to take this a step at a time - starting out with just the right set-up in Photoshop and your other imaging applications and a calibrated / profiled monitor screen. We can also advise on working environment since ambient lighting is all important when judging images on a monitor.

Eizo_CG210 Colour Management is, effectively, centred upon the Monitor Display system. Having got that calibrated and profiled properly, the next logical step is to profile printers and, perhaps later, scanners and cameras. We can also help with good protocols for the import of files from your digital camera or scan provider. We think that Image Integrity is important above all else and will help you to understand how to preserve vital image data as far as possible through the workflow, where possible carrying images completely intact right through to final output, be it press, inkjet or even as a library file on hire to a client.

Plainly, the idea of upsetting current you working procedures whilst in production is impractical, so we can help you implement Colour Management gradually and with sensitivity.

We can help you fit in with your client's working methods, this can be very useful since some are, quite understandably, very resistant to change.

We will also train you - and your staff (or perhaps train you to train them) to keep your working practices and devices in good order. It is not our policy to leave you with heavy books to read and without a full understanding of the workflow. [Click here to see our Training section, in a new window]

In House Image "Proofing" and file exchange:

In today's blame culture it seems immensely valuable for any digital image exchange to be accompanied by a "proof", maybe a certified proof with a certificate, or at a simpler level, by what we might call a "digital validation print" - this in order to provide a visual reference point on which all can agree. This will increase the value of a photographer's digital file in a client's eyes and also serve a designer or agency well, in their relationship with a repro house or printer.

This printed image can also serve on both sides of the relationship with photographer or designer and photo-lab, or perhaps a specialist printer, since a good reference when ordering in print runs or over size display and exhibition prints is very useful.
Plainly, the above advantages also apply to the lab or printer where client's work is received in a digital form, since they need to be in a position to verify incoming files using good colour management practices.

Proofer set-up and profiling:

Proofer calibration and profiling is done on-site. It's very difficult to make the ultimate CMYK profiles needed by a RIP without being next to the printer. Proofing can be set-up to simulate many different press standards and we can even set you up to simulate an ISO standard CMYK press. We can also provide equipment and software to allow measurement of proofs and the production of a certificate to accompany each. Click here for more info, on our colour news page.

Please click here to find out more about proofing, this link will send us an email, please write a little about your work, how it's printed and the software and equipment you currently use.

Consultancy on equipment choice and Installation:

We can work with you on installation of systems and upgrades, and provide advice and assistance in choosing digital imaging workstations, scanners, printers etc. We can provide much of the equipment needed, including Eizo Displays and Epson printers - also recommend on outsourcing.
